The FLEOA Foundation Scholarship Program is looking for eligible applicants. Listed below are the eligibility rules, requirements, and directions for the FLEOA Foundation Scholarship Program. Follow the directions below, fill out the application on the next page and mail it with all other required documentation to: FLEOA Foundation, P.O. Box 3231, Church Street Station, New York, NY 10008-3231 . Who is Eligible? Class of High School graduates who are the children of cur-rent, retired or deceased Federal Law Enforcement Officers. How to Apply High School graduates of the Class of 2011 are to submit the following postmarked by July 15, 2011: ‰ The Scholarship application. ‰ A transcript of your high school grades, with class ‰ A copy of your diploma/graduation certificate. ‰ A letter of acceptance from a college or university. ‰ A self addressed stamped envelope. FLEOA Foundation Scholarship Program ranking, SAT or other aptitude test scores. How Winners are Selected A scholarship committee consisting of two members of the Board of Directors and one or more non-board members will independently rank each application. Scholarships will be awarded in the order of the highest cumulative ranking. Criteria used for selection Scholastic Ability: SAT scores, grades, class ranking, hon-ors, awards, etc. Social Character: Leadership qualities, participation in ac-tivities/organizations, etc. Special consideration will be given to those applicants who are the children of federal law enforcement officers killed or disabled in the line of duty. Hardships may be identified and may receive special consideration at the discretion of the selection panel. Type of Awards The scholarship program will be limited to grants of $1,000 and $500. In 2010, The FLEOA Foundation scholarship program made 55 individual grants of $1000. There were 22 individual grants of $1000 and 33 individual grants of $500 that were awarded to high school graduates. Submission of Scholarship Application Applications are to be submitted with a self addressed stamped envelope directly to: FLEOA Foundation P.O. Box 3231 Church Street Station New York, NY 10008-3231 Applications must be postmarked by July 15, 2011. Re-sponses will be mailed by August 31, 2011. CHAPTER 50 WASHINGTON FLEOA Chapter 50 was pleased to co-host at the May 9, 2011 lodge meeting of the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #26 Centerville, which featured Sheriff Steve Mansfield and Detective Sergeant Dusty Breen, Lewis County (WA) Sheriff’s Office. The meeting included a presentation regarding issues involving citizens’ use of deadly force. The powerpoint presentation accompanied with a hardcopy handout, was on target, concise, and comprehensive in summarizing issues involving the use of deadly force by civilians within the state, including concealed weapons licenses and transport considerations. Many thanks to Sheriff Mansfield and Detective Sergeant Breen for the tremendous time, preparation, effort, and care they took to provide a most informative and essential briefing on this very important topic. The chapter president is working on getting the powerpoint presentation available in electronic format; in the meantime, the hardcopy powerpoint presentation in e-mail format can be obtained by e-mailing the Chapter President at jeeckrich@aol.com or contacting him at 360-951-9298. The chapter is also looking into having the presentation provided in person during a future luncheon restaurant chapter meeting in Tacoma, WA. Sheriff Mansfield up close and personal with the citizens of Lewis County. My apologies about the incorrect date published in the last 1811 for our next scheduled major event (2 days off target)…I have dismissed our Chapter Secretary (that would be me!) over the mistake….Our next chapter activity on the calendar, our summer picnic, will happen on Saturday, August 13, 2011, the weekend following Seattle’s SEAFAIRweekend, the latter which occurs on the first weekend in August 2011, which includes hydroplane boat races and the world reknown U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Team, The Blue Angels.
